This is an exciting opportunity for an HR and Strategy Manager to join a fast growing mixed orthodontic specialised dental group with practices in Central, West and South-West London.

Job Title: HR and Strategy Manager

Location: Richmond area

Start date: ASAP

Days/Hours: 4-5 days a week

Salary: £40000- £45000 per annum, dependant on experience


Purpose of the job

Assist Business Manager and Principals in efficient operations of the Orthodontic Group, at its multiple locations; grow private referral base and maintain current leads, interact with local communities to promote orthodontic services; oversee mobilisation of premises, management of staff and HR processes, ensure compliance is maintained across all sites; perform such other tasks as reasonably requested by the Principals.

Responsible for: Dental nurses, orthodontic therapists, receptionists, coordinators, associates

Employment duties

  • Take responsibility for the management of the practice in the key areas of finance, personnel, compliance, dealing with NHS contract
  • Follow practice policies and procedures and to monitor the staff and help them to follow policies and procedures
  • Promote, establish and maintain productive working relationships with all members of the dental team
  • Liaise with the Principals and, where appropriate, Business Manager, on matters concerning finance, administration, pay and service conditions
  • Supervise all staff at all locations to include the following: Training, Punctuality, Uniforms and appearance, Pay, Sickness and other leave, Customer service
  • Calculate monthly pay for all team members
  • Liaise with businesses, tradesmen, service providers and other key stakeholders
  • Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work


Key management tasks


  • Work with the Principals to ensure the efficient and effective management of the practice
  • Ensure adherence and monitor performance against the business plan
  • Maintain financial information and provide suitable audit and financial reporting systems
  • Oversee patient ledgers and financial reconciliation
  • Produce monthly management accounts along with KPI reports and discuss the practice performance with the Principals and Business Manager
  • Develop budgets, and control capital purchases and the inventory
  • Ensure all monies are banked appropriately and ensure effective credit control methods are in place including payments of invoices and collection of outstanding debts
  • Oversee the payroll function and arrange for the timely payment of salaries and payments to all team members including associates
  • Ensure that correct payments are made by the NHSE for the work carried out
  • Oversee ARR allocations of the associates on Compass


  • Develop and keep up-to-date relevant practice policies and procedures, train practice staff in their use and ensure that the relevant procedures are always followed
  • Manage implementation of the practice clinical governance system, where appropriate
  • Oversee NHS claims, targets and follow up on “missing” claims or those in “error” and liaise with Business Manager over the necessary capacity
  • Maintain communication with NHSE over contractual matters
  • Register new performers on Compass and remove those no longer in post



  • Undertake appropriate HR duties in respect of recruitment, induction, training, monitoring of CPD, appraisal, performance issues, PDP’s, pay, grievance and disciplinary issues and dismissal
  • Keep and monitor staff records including sickness and other absence and annual leave
  • Organise and chair practice meetings regularly
  • Organize staff social gatherings and events
  • Organize staff rota, ensure sufficient cover is maintained at all locations
  • Arrange temporary staff as and when necessary
  • Oversee and maintain the accreditation of the Investors in People Standard and aim to develop it further


  • Arrange and attend training and practice meetings
  • Ensure staff are meeting their CPD targets
  • Ensure that relevant/mandatory training is provided to all staff
  • Develop an induction and training programme and ensure that it is implemented
  • Highlight to the Principals staff PDP’s and training objectives
  • Identify your own training and development needs and complete them as agreed with the Principals

Business Planning

  • Assist the Principals with financial planning, forecasts and develop budgets and ensure these are met
  • Promote orthodontic services to local communities through school visits, charitable donations, sponsorships, promotions and other activities
  • Grow private referral base via utilising various means, engage with local dentists to maintain referral flow- to include CPD events, open evenings, promotional material and opportunities, organizing lunch and learn for staff, visits to dental practices
  • Assist with acquisition, fit out and mobilisation of new premises and that these meet all required industry standards and are fully compliant.
  • Liaise with the Principals over refurbishment projects and alterations to existing premises


  • Assist Business Manager and CQC Registered Manager with compliance and ensure that all staff perform in line with GDC standards, current laws and follow procedures and protocols and that all CQC fundamental standards are met.

  • iComply Folder 3 – Radiation Protection
  • iComply Folder 5 – Infection Prevention and Control
  • iComply Folder 7 – Staff Handbook
  • iComply Folder 9 – Patient involvement and Consent
